![]() ![]() RIP Ammunition - High Speed Slow Motion Tests g2 ballisticAny donations. 300 Blackout Subsonic Ammo The speed of sound is 1,275 feet per second (fps) at sea level and varies slightly with temperature and atmospheric pressure. Or just the typical subsonic specialty bullets at subsonic speed some of those may be interesting pushed faster but you'll likely find them shedding noses and/or petals, which isn't completely a bad thing but you need to be aware of what they do. The G2 Research RIP 300 AAC RIPOUT fracturing round features 18-22 Penetration. ![]() The average velocity was 1,069 fps, but the loads extreme spread of 96 fps. It's a better killer with the 110-125gr class and plenty of proven good bullets (like the black tip mentioned above, or the 125 NBT, both of which expand well at reasonable ranges and penetrate deeply). Theoretically, supersonic 300 Blackout has the ability to make it a threat. ![]() I really don't see the point in pushing heavy bullets to medium-slow speeds in the Blk though. But the ELDM (and other SST bullets I've used) seem to have a lower limit around 1800-1900 in my experience. There aren't many 30 cal rifle bullets that expand significantly below 1600 fps the Barnes110gr black tip does for sure, and of course the various specialty subsonic bullets, and Nosler's ABLR line does as well although it's kind of toeing the line right there. The max was 1061, min was 1029, SD was 14 with an ES of 32 fps. I still had the hornady black so I used that as a baseline for speed testing. Fast forward a few weeks and I have a 5x5 load test for hornady 208 and 220 gr BTHPs using Accurate 1680 powder. Talking about expansion in live meat, and not just what they do when hitting bone, or inappropriate test media. Hornady black and the remington 220gr OTM subsonic both failed to lock on an empty mag. Velocity (FPS) 210: Berger BTTLR Re: 300 BLK Load Data The 220 subsonic. I'd be really surprised if the SST did either. Subsonic loads refer to those whose velocity is less than the speed of sound. In my experience, an ELDM doesn't have a particularly soft tip and doesn't expand at those speeds from the Blackout. Click to expand.Based on testing in what media? Since you said "should be an effective killer" I'm guessing you haven't killed anything with them yet, so no meat results? If you're testing in sand or something like that, you're probably seeing results that don't line up with what happens in meat. All the major ammunition manufacturers offer subsonic. ![]()
